Year_4 Autumn Curriculum Topics
In English we will be reading the fantastic book ‘The Water Horse’ by Dick King-Smith. We will write our own creative story including a sea monster of our own using a range of sentence types and punctuation. Poetry will be another focus of this half term which will be linked to our topic of the Blue Abyss. As well as that, Y4 will also write a diary entry and a persuasive letter.
Over this half term we will cover the following units:
• Measurements
• Fractions
• Time
• Geometry and data handling
We will continue to work on our times tables knowledge.
Blue Abyss
Art and Design
In art this half term we will be looking at work from the artist J. Vincent Scarpace. We will look in detail at the features of different types of fish and then design and create our own piece of artwork based on the ocean. As a class we will also design and create our own sea creatures out of clay.
Design and Technology
In design and technology we will be researching submarines. We will make a model deep-sea submarine that can withstand great pressure and travel to the deepest, darkest places on Earth. Make sure you test it first!
General Information
Spellings and homework handed out on Fridays and due in on Wednesdays.
Reading mornings on Wednesday and Friday.
P.E will be on Thursday afternoons and swimming will continue on a Wednesday afternoon
