Year_4 Spring 1 Curriculum Topics
In English we will be looking at non-fiction texts based on our new topic ‘Misty Mountain Sierra’. We will create our own information leaflets based on famous mountains from around the world. We will also plan and write our own adventure story linked to our book this half term ‘Cliffhanger’ by Jacqueline Wilson. During our English lessons this half term we will continue to focus on proof reading our work to check that it makes sense. We will also continue to develop our skills in using a dictionary and thesaurus to extend the vocabulary we use.
Our topic this half term is ‘Misty Mountain Sierra’. As a class we will focus on the features of mountains and famous mountains around the world. Year 4 will use a range of maps to locate famous mountains and discuss the differences and similarities.

This half term our science topic is based on ‘Living things and their habitats’. We will look at the classification of a range of animals and research the endangered animals of the world. Year 4 will also research how the environment can pose dangers to different animals.
Year 4 are very lucky to take part in 10 music lessons from the Sheffield Music Hub. We will be learning to play glockenspiels and we will also attend the Halle Music Concert in Sheffield town centre.
In RE we will be focussing on the following questions:
How important is it for Jewish people to do what God asks them to do?
Do religious people lead better lives?
Is religion the most important influence and inspiration in everyone’s life?
General Information
PE on Thursdays.
Swimming will continue on Wednesday afternoons.
Homework handed out on a Friday and due in on the following Wednesday.
