In English we will be focusing on narratives. Our class texts will be called ‘The Little Red Ant and the Great Big Crumb’ and ‘I see the Sun in Mexico’. We will then be writing some poetry about Mexican festivals as well as instructions about planting a bean seed. Our focus this half term in writing will be using punctuation, conjunctions (and, so, because) and checking work.
Year_1 Spring 2 Curriculum Topics
In maths we will be practising adding and subtracting and applying our skills to finding out missing number problems (9+___ = 16) (15- ____=3). We will also be using positional and directional language, moving and turning clockwise and anti-clockwise. We will then be revisiting our multiplication facts by counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

Our focus this half term is plants. We will be looking at how they grow and what they need to grow. We will be planting our own beans and considering how we can make an investigation about plants a fair test.
What grows in Mexico?
In topic we will be learning about Aztec tribes and where they fit on a chronological timeline. In history, we will be learning about significant famous people such as Frida Kahlo and Christopher Columbus.
In geography we will be learning about where Mexico is and special landmarks in Mexico. We will also be comparing a small Mexican village to Chapeltown and considering similarities and differences.
Art and DT
In Art we will be looking at the work of Frida Kahlo. We will also be making some guacamole dip to try with nachos!
Mrs Wright will continue to do PE on Wednesday and our Coach Tom will be doing fundamental skills on Mondays!

Please ensure that children have their PE kits for the first Monday back! Thanks
