In English we will be writing non-fiction facts about a famous person, reading texts by Roald Dahl such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach and George's Marvellous Medicine. The traditional tales we will be reading are The Gingerbread Man, The Little Red Hen and George and the Dragon.
Year_1 Summer 1 - Famous People and Traditional Tales Curriculum Topics
We will be securing Number bonds to 10 and 20 including the inverses (e.g 6 + 4 = 10, 10-6=4). We will also be measuring in length using cms and mms. We will make sure that we can all count in 2's, 5's and 10's and can apply this to multiplication problems (2 x 2 = 5 x 2 = 3 x 10=)
In science we will be going back to our seasonal change unit of work and moving on to Summer. We will leave the bean plant pots in school and continue to observe and watch them growing. We will also be completing an investigation about chocolate.
Which Famous People do you Know?
In RE we will be learning about the Jewish festival of Shabbat. We will learn the symbols of Judaism and discuss how Shabbat is celebrated.
The phonics screening is fast approaching! We will continue to revisit the phase 3 sounds and are working through the phase 5 sounds. We will also continue to practise the phase 3 and 5 sounds in a range of real and alien words.
Our focus in topic this half term is to identify and name the features of castles and to learn more about famous people including Queen Elizabeth 1 and Queen Victoria.
