ENGLISH
The majority of our writing will be linked to our class text: George’s Marvellous Medicine. The children will be focusing on analysing the features of different genres to inform their own planning and writing. The genres we will be covering include: recounts, poetry, diary entries and instruction writing.
Year_4 Autumn 1 - 2019/2020 Curriculum Topics
MATHS
The children will begin by reaffirming their understanding of the value of digits within four-digit numbers. This will then provide the basis for work on ordering and comparing numbers up to 9,999 and rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000. We will spend the second part of the term concentrating on addition and subtraction methods.
SCIENCE
As part of our food topic, the children will be investigating the different types of human teeth and their functions, as well as the importance of keeping them healthy. We will then move on to learning about the digestive system and what happens to our food once we have eaten it. The second part of the term will focus on food chains, predators and prey.
Food, Glorious Food - Where does it come from and where does it go?
GEOGRAPHY
The children will be using map reading skills to identify the correlation between climate, population and the location of fast food restaurants. We will then consider the origin of different foods and explore the impact of drought and famine in different countries and continents.
