To kick start our English lessons, we will be reading 'Stig of the Dump'! Our new class book will help us to write our own playscripts, non-chronological reports and information texts. We will continue our Active Reading and our comprehension based on the book. Similarly, our SPAG focus will continue to be apostrophes, colons and commas.
Spelling Tests continue every Friday morning, reading mornings Tues and Thurs.
Year_4 Spring 1 Curriculum Topics
In Maths, Y4 will be exploring percentages of numbers, measurement (including length, mass, weight and time) and angles. Children will continue their weekly problem solving activities, daily times tables work and weekly tests. A kind reminder that scores are expected in diaries each Friday.
Our Science this term will be based on sound! We will explore lots of interesting questions, such as:
-How is sound made?
-How does sound travel?
-Vibrations through sounds - can sounds be stopped/altered?
-How fast can sound move?
Could you Rock The Stone Age?
Our fascinating new topic, 'Could you Rock The Stone Age' focuses on an amazing historical period! We will start our topic with a Historical Interpretations visit. Children will learn all about when The Stone Age took place, where Stonehenge is and how it was made, and how people lived in different conditions.
We will have a go at researching, drafting and creating our own Stone Age cave paintings! Similarly, we will explore art made from natural resources, such as rock and wood, as well as using clay to make our Stone Age sculptures.
PE, MFL & Music
Swimming will continue this term. Please continue to bring kits in each Wednesday until further notice. Our PE day at school is Monday where we will be playing basketball.
In French we will continue to explore hobbies, numbers after 11 and adjectives.
For Music, our new song will be 'We Will Rock You!' where we will learn a rewritten version, and incorporate some rounds, harmonies and instruments.
Following on from our introduction to Judaism, we will be exploring the questions:
-Do religious people lead better lives?
-What is the most important belief Jewish people hold?
-Can religion influence others?
