English
During this term we will be looking at non-chronological reports and how they are structured and then applying this when writing our own. We will also be writing our own Newspaper reports about the Moon Landing and diary entries/ mission logs in role as astronauts. We will be using a range of sources to find our information from video clips, to internet pages and books.
Year_5 Autumn One 2018 Curriculum Topics
Maths
In the Autumn term we will be focusing on our place value skills as well as our methods for the 4 operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). We will also be learning about fractions, decimals and percentages and the relationship between these. Our big focus during every maths lesson is going to be on reasoning and developing our skills in this area.
Science
Our topic this term will link to our class 'Space' topic where we will be studying the Earth, Sun and Moon. As part of this topic we will be learning about their shapes and approximate sizes; their movement through space and how things like day/night and seasons are created.
Will there ever be another human on the Moon?
PE
Our PE days will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please ensure you have your kit with you on those days.
This half term we will be practising our basketball skills which will involve: throwing, catching, passing, shooting and dribbling. Our alternate lessons will be based around various other sporting skills such as balance and agility.
PSHE
During our PSHE lessons this term we will be focusing on relationships and how our feelings and emotions can affect our relationships with others. We will also be considering how we can recognise different feelings in others and how to respond to them appropriately. During some of these lessons we will also be learning about online safety and how to protect ourselves while using the internet.
RE
Our RE topic this term is all about different places of worship and how people from different communities practise their religious beliefs.
Art and Design
Our art lessons this term will begin with a drawing/sketching focus. We will be drawing objects from observation and learning how to create different effects with a pencil. We will then be moving on to using paint and practising our colour-mixing skills to create some paintings of planets and the Solar System.
