During this term we will be looking at non-chronological reports and how they are structured and then applying this when writing our own. We will also be reading the book 'Viking Boy' by Tony Bradman and basing much of our writing around that: taking on the role of Gunnar the son of the Viking chief, writing setting/character descriptions and re-writing parts of the story using our own imaginations.
Year_5 Y5 Autumn Two 2019 Curriculum Topics
In the Autumn term we will be focusing on our place value skills as well as our methods for the 4 operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). We will also be learning about fractions, decimals and percentages and the relationship between these. Our big focus during every maths lesson is going to be on reasoning and developing our skills in this area.
This half term we will be continuing to look at 'living things' but this time with a focus on their life cycles and the different stages animals and plants go through in their lifetimes. We will also be looking at reproduction and begin to learn about the changes that happen to humans as they go through puberty.
What was life like in Britain during the Viking era?
Our PE days will be Tuesdays and Fridays. Please ensure you have your kit with you on those days.
This half term we will be learning a narrative dance which tells a story of a Viking tribe arriving in Britain. Our Tuesday lessons (taught by Mrs Wright) will be based around various other sporting skills such as balance and agility.
During our PSHE lessons this term we will be focusing on relationships and how our feelings and emotions can affect our relationships with others. We will also be considering how we can recognise different feelings in others and how to respond to them appropriately. During some of these lessons we will also be learning about online safety and how to protect ourselves while using the internet.
This half term we will be looking at Christianity and in particular the Christmas story and how this festival is celebrated by Christians around the world.
This half term we will be looking at creating different effects with collage, modelling and weaving. This will link to our Viking topic.
