This half term we will be reading the book 'The Firework-Maker's Daughter' by Philip Pullman. Our work in English will be based around Lila (the book's main character) and her adventure to Mount Merapi to find out the secret to becoming a true firework-maker.
Year_5 Spring One 2017 Curriculum Topics
During this half term, we will be revising the four operations and our written methods for these. We will also be learning more about fractions, decimals and percentages. As well as this, we will be looking at angles and area/perimeter.
We are continuing to look at materials in our science lessons this half term and will be experimenting with changing materials between their states, e.g. water/ice/steam. We will also be investigating dissolving and filtering different materials.
What makes the Earth angry? (Volcanoes)
Our PE days this half term will be Wednesdays and Thursdays. Our Wednesday lessons will be taught by Miss Zadrozny and Mr Nettleship and will focus on competitive games. Our Thursday lessons will be taught by Catch Coaching and will follow the 'Real PE' scheme.
Following on from our last topic 'Earthquakes', we will now be learning about volcanoes. During this topic, we will learn about how volcanoes are formed, their importance to our way of life, how their presence affects people across the globe and about famous eruptions from the past.
We will be using a range or materials to create different volcano-themed artwork. We look forward to showing you our art during our family assembly on Thursday 26th January.
This half term we will be learning about Sikhism. We will discover what Sikh people believe, their values and traditions, where they go to worship and what life is like living as a Sikh.
