This term we will be looking at newspapers and other examples of journalistic writing based on our topic of 'Natural Disasters'. We will also be writing informative texts linked to Geography. In the second half of the term we will be reading 'The Firework Maker's Daughter' by Phillip Pullman and learning about Lila's journey through Asia.
Year_5 Y5 Spring Term 2020 Curriculum Topics
In Maths we will be studying Area and Perimeter and applying our addition, subtraction and multiplication skills. We will then move on to fractions, decimals and percentages.
In Science, we will be continuing to look at Life Cycles and then move on to investigating the properties of materials.
What makes the Earth angry?
Our Geography topic this term is all about the physical geography of the Earth. We will look at the tectonic plates and how their movement can cause natural disasters such as: earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. We will link this to history when learning about the eruption of Vesuvius which destroyed the town of Pompeii.
This half term in RE, we will be learning about Islam and the main beliefs of the religion. We will be particularly investigating the importance of prayer within the religion.
After half term, we look at Christianity and the significance of the crucifixion in relation to Easter.
Our Tuesday PE lessons will continue to be taught by Mrs Wright who will deliver lessons on the Fundamentals of Sports (FUNS).
Miss Zadrozny will be teaching Gymnastics on Fridays.
In Art this term we will be focusing on colour mixing and painting skills. We will link this to our work on volcanoes and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
