Our English lessons will be focused on our class text: 'The Firework-Maker's Daughter' which follows Lila on her quest towards the centre of a volcano to find out the secret behind firework-making. We will be completing descriptive writing on the various characters and settings within the story and also completing some narrative writing of our own.
Year_5 Y5 Spring Two 2018 Curriculum Topics
Our focus this half term will be fractions, decimals and percentages. Throughout this topic we will be completing various calculations involving fractions and learning more about the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages.
This half term we will continue to look at materials and forces and how different forces have varying effects on different materials.
How have humans adapted to living with volcanoes?
Our volcanoes topic will allow us to research some of the more powerful and destructive volcanic eruptions from the past and learn how humans have adapted to live in such dangerous conditions. We will also learn why humans have settled on volcanic earth and how their lives have been impacted upon by the presence of the volcano.
Our PE days this half term will be Wednesdays and Fridays. Wednesdays lessons will take place with Mrs Wright who will be covering some of the games objectives. Our Fridays sessions for this half term will be led by a gymnastics coach from the Arches project.
Mrs Wright will be covering the Christianity objectives relating to Lent and Easter. This will include looking at the Easter story in more depth and understanding it from a Christian's point of view.
Our art this half term will focus on colour mixing as we plan and create our own volcanic eruption paintings.
