Our topic for this term is all about pirates. We will be learning about why people became pirates, modern day piracy, life on board a pirate ship and famous pirates. A lot of our topic work will be completed through writing. For example, we will be writing letters, descriptions and poetry all about pirate life. I will look forward to reading your research.
Year_3 Autumn 2 Curriculum Topics
Self checking our own writing for spelling, punctuation and grammar errors will feature highly this term as well as independently using paragraphs to organise ideas. Being able to develop ideas so that characters, plots and settings are described will be a focus. Our topic will be the main basis for our writing this term so look out for lots of cross curricular pirate links.
Addition and subtraction, fractions, telling the time and statistics will be the key units covered this term. Look out for the maths vocabulary which is being sent home to help support these areas.
As always number bonds to 10, 20 and 100 and recalling the 2, 5, 10 and 3x timetables will remain a main focus this term. Can you challenge yourself to learn the 4x tables?
Would You Like To Be A Pirate?
Magnets and Forces is our topic, so over the next few weeks we will be planning and conducting fair tests. We will be testing which materials are magnetic and non-magnetic and investigating into the strength of different magnets. As well as this we will be looking at the poles of magnets and discussing key vocabulary such as 'North Pole and South Pole'.
Our REAL PE unit is called Social Skills and looks at various types of jumping.

We are also very lucky to have Sheffield Wednesday in every week developing our tennis skills and hockey skills.
The first PSHE unit is called 'Growing and Changing'.
It looks at managing feelings, empathy and changes in life including loss.
We will then move onto looking at 'Keeping 'Safe.
This unit focuses on school rules which keep us safe, managing pressures and stress, giving consent and making sensible decisions. Links will also be made with online safety and how we keep safe when in the online world.
