We will be consolidating skills in writing such as using phonics to segment and spell words, using and applying punctuation and extending our vocabulary to describe. In order to meet Year One expectations, we will also be ensuring that our letter formation is correctly formed.
Year_1 Summer 1 Curriculum Topics
We will be focusing on ball skills and co-ordination with equipment. On Mondays, our PE session will be with the Sheffield Wednesday coach Evan who is super! On Fridays, we will continue our work on dance skills!
In maths this half term we will be using our positional language skills to make quarter, half and full turns both clockwise and anti clockwise. We will also be ensuring that we can recall number bonds to 20 and recognise the inverses as set recently in homework (16 + 4 = 20 so 20 - 16 = 4). We will also be learning how to spell numbers in words.
Famous People and Traditional Tales
Our science focus next half term will be animals and humans. We will be labelling body parts, grouping common animals and beginning tor recognise whether an animal is a herbivore, omnivore or carnivore.
History and Georgraphy - topic
Our history and geography focus this half term is around castles and the royal family. We will learn about Queen Victoria and Elizabeth and looking at the features of castles too. This will link well with our roleplay area which is a castle!
Our artist focus this half term is Van Gogh who famously painted 'The Sunflowers' and 'Starry Night'. We will be looing closely at his work and replicating it!
In reading we will be working on performance poetry again as we have this half term! We have loved this. A big focus for us in year one is to make sure that we are answering questions in as much detail as possible and also beginning to record answers in full sentences.
