Spring Term 2020

Wednesday 15 Dec 2021 07:29am

In Year One we will be undertaking the following themes through Spring term-

In mathematics: we will continue our shape learning- naming and describing 2d and 3d shapes, finding shapes within the environment and recalling facts to identify hidden shapes using shape properties with growing independence.

In number: We will continue to consolidate number bonds and place value within 20 and then to 50, solving addition and subtraction within 10

In English: We will be continuing with phonic teaching and learning as shared through home learning and supporting the children to use and apply this knowledge within their individual and independent reading too. Our writing foci will be covered through both fiction and nonfiction pieces supporting our Geography and History topics.

Our science topic for the term is ‘Humans and senses’. We will be learning about the human body and how our senses help us to learn and explore the world in which we live.

Through geography we will be continuing our fieldwork skills for the local area. Exploring maps, positional language, direction, use of compasses and Google maps, Digi maps etc to explore online and in person.

Our history will explore transport and how this has changed over time. From Victorian transport to the current day. Also, we will look at famous people (Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin 1969) linked to the first Rocket landing.

Information will soon be shared to invite you to an online parent workshop -  end of year expectations, next steps and target setting. This will also be an ideal platform to share more about the annual phonics screening which will take place in June 2022. Thank you
